Heerekayi palya | Ridge Gourd Curry


A healthy curry with high fibre, and a very tasty one, sounds like an oxymoron?? it isnt, trust me!

Time to Prepare : 20 Min || Serves : 4


  1. Ridge Gourd – 1/4 kg
  2. Besan (Gram Flour) – 2 table spoon
  3.  Cooking Oil – 5 table spoon
  4. Red chilli powder – 1.5 table spoon
  5.  Turmeric powder – 1/4 table spoon
  6. Salt for taste
  7. Mustard seeds – 1/2 table spoon
  8. Hing – a pinch
  9. Red chilli – 1

Preparation Method:

Step 1 : Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let mustard seeds crackle.

Step 2: Next add red chilli, hing and sliced ridge gourd. Then add salt for taste and turmeric powder.

Step 3: Stir and close the lid of the pan . Cook for 7 – 10 min until the ridge gourd is cooked Check and stir occasionally to ensure that the ridge gourd does not get burnt at the bottom of the pan.

Step 4: Next add red chill powder, besan flour and stir well. Then sprinkle appx 2 table spoons of water and stir again ,close the lid and cook for 2 – 3 min.

Step 5 : Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
